How Three-Stage Vapor Recovery Works

The core technology used in most modern systems is condensation + adsorption:

  1. Vapor collection: The system draws vapor-air mixture from the underground storage tank ullage space
  2. Compression: A compressor increases the pressure of the vapor mixture
  3. Cooling/Condensation: The compressed vapor passes through a heat exchanger, cooling it below the condensation point. Fuel vapors turn back into liquid while air remains gaseous
  4. Separation: Liquid fuel is separated and returned to the storage tank
  5. Adsorption (polishing): Remaining trace vapors pass through an activated carbon filter for final capture
  6. Exhaust: Clean air (≤25g/m³ VOC) is vented to the atmosphere
