  1. Measure outside diameter at several points along a coil and confirm the wall thickness reads consistently;

  3. Check the inner surface through the cut end for scoring, contamination or visible layer separation;
  4. Confirm the conductive path through the pipe wall where an anti-static construction has been specified;
  5. Record the marking on the pipe surface and compare it with the order and the batch record.

What to check on the coil and the packaging

A coil should arrive wound tightly and evenly, with no kinking, flat spotting or abrasion from the strapping. Coil diameter matters because a coil that has been wound too tight is harder to pay out and puts more stress on the pipe during installation. Check that end caps are fitted, that the coil is strapped so it cannot shift, and that the label carries the batch and dimension.

If the batch is produced in one continuous run, the sample should be spread across the run rather than taken from the first coils off the line.

Can the inspection be done by video call?

Partially. A live video walk-through works well for coil condition, strapping, end caps and labelling, and it lets the buyer see the pipe being measured in real time. Destructive checks such as a cut sample are better documented with photographs and the sample retained, since the result needs to be traceable rather than simply observed.

What is the most common finding?

In practice the most frequent issues are handling-related rather than production-related: scuffed outer surfaces from strapping, a coil wound tighter than agreed, or a label that does not match the packing list. These are easy to correct before loading and expensive to correct afterwards.

How long does the inspection take?

A single-batch inspection covering dimension checks, a cut sample and packing review is normally a matter of hours, which is why it is usually folded into the day the container is loaded rather than treated as a separate trip.
